2010 NBA Rookies
Contribution by Terrance Kirby
The NBA basketball season starts with the preseason, which makes sense given that the prefix pre- means coming before. If it were called the ante-season, it would come after, although I suppose in that case the suffix post-season is used. In any case, when the preseason begins, I like to watch how the rookies are performing and subsequently add the stars to my fantasy team. After all, when a player in the NBA is good, it shows immediately. This is not like football where it takes time to get acclimated to the speed, in some cases even two whole seasons. In basketball if you can play, you can play right away.
The best part about this is many fantasy basketball players undervalue rookies. In an auction draft you can get a quality rookie star for about a tenth of the cost. This is because most fantasy basketball players think rookies are an unknown quality. However, if you watch the preseason, you know everything you need to. The preseason will give you a good gauge of what their numbers will be like in the regular season. Again, this isn’t like football where the starters only play the first half. In the NBA preseason, the starters play nearly the whole game, as the risk for injury is much lower as it is on the gridiron. I watch all the on .
