49ers To Name Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh New Head Coach

After a week of the rumors swirling around about Stanford Cardinal head coach Jim Harbaugh being in line for an NFL head coaching job, the final decision seems to have been made.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Harbaugh will be the next head coach of the nearby San Francisco 49ers. So this means former Chicago Bears linebacker Mike Singletary gets fired in favor of former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim Harbaugh.

The Stanford coach has agreed to a five-year deal worth $25 million.

Harbaugh had been rumored to go to alma mater Michigan to take over as head coach there. The Miami Dolphins and the 49ers both paid Harbaugh a visit, but the 49ers ultimately won the battle.

College coaches going straight to the NFL has only worked for one team in NFL history and that was Jimmie Johnson’s success with the Dallas Cowboys in the 90′s, so the future of the 49ers doesn’t look the brightest but maybe Harbaugh will make a difference. We shall see.

“College coaches going straight to the NFL has only worked once…..and that was Jimmie [sic] Johnson.” Seriously? Does anyone remember Bill Walsh? He went from Stanford to the 49ers and won the Super Bowl (his first of three) in his third season!
