5 Best Landing Spots For QB David Garrard
Former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard, who was released before the season began, has said that he doesn’t want to be a temporary fix for a team but it looks like his wish won’t come true because most of the teams in the NFL are pretty set at quarterback, with the exception of a few. Here are five teams I think Garrard could not necessarily be a temporary fix.
5. Washington Redskins – Even though Redskins new starting quarterback Rex Grossman proved himself against a banged up New York Giants defense, he has proven to crumble late in games and the season. Since the ‘Skins have no young stud to back up Grossman, Garrard could come in and be a good replacement for head coach Mike Shanahan.
4. San Francisco 49ers – In my opinion, Alex Smith should have been cut years ago and this year isn’t any different for me. Smith has had more chances than any other No. 1 overall pick than I could remember. No playoff wins, no pro bowls, no nothing. He is very overrated and has been given way too many chances. Garrard could come in and take his starting spot with no problem.
3. Cleveland Browns – Colt McCoy looks to be pretty decent right now but I want to see how he can hold up throughout the entire season. McCoy could use a veteran quarterback like Garrard to learn from. The Browns also have Seneca Wallace, who is a nice backup but if the Browns want to make a run at the playoffs, I think Garrard is a better choice than Colt McCoy.
2. Seattle Seahawks – Tavaris Jackson is the new guy in town for the Seahawks after they let veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck move on to the Tennessee Titans. Jackson is an unproven starter and could fall apart as the season goes along. Garrard could step in and be a permanent fix for the Seahawks and lead them to another playoff run in 2011.
1. Miami Dolphins – This is where I think David Garrard would fit best. It’s right down I-95 to a team that has a receiver better than he has ever played with in Brandon Marshall, a young multi-purpose running back in Reggie Bush and has a coach that I believe would put him a position to be as successful in Miami as he was in Jacksonville.
