Alabama RB Mark Ingram A Legitimate Heisman Candidate???

Alabama Crimson Tide running back Mark Ingram seems to be one of the more forgotten players in this year’s Heisman race. Perhaps because of all three Heisman finalist returning from last year’s race including the return of SEC rival and 2007 Heisman Trophy Winner Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow.
Nine times out of ten, the Heisman Trophy Winner comes from the best player on the best team and Mark Ingram is the best player on one of the two best teams in the nation.
Ingram, only a sophomore, is a top five rusher in the nation, second in rushing yards (1,004) in the SEC behind rival Auburn running back Ben Tate (1,067) and the SEC leader touchdowns with eight.
Ingram began the season with a 150 yard performance against the then #7 Virginia Tech Hokies and a very tough Bud Foster defense in Blacksburg.
He then had two consecutive 100-yard games against Kentucky and Mississippi before bursting out with a huge performance against Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks finishing with a career best 246 yards, an amazing 10.3 yard average per carry and a touchdown to help Alabama win the game 20-6.
Ingram and the Crimson Tide are currently 8-0 and ranked #3 in the nation, that all equals Heisman Trophy Candidate to me, while he has great numbers, his team is undefeated and highly ranked, the odds of him winning the award are extremely slim for two reasons:
#1- In the over 70-year history of the Heisman Trophy, only one sophomore has ever won the award and that was Gators quarterback Tim Tebow in 2007.
#2- Only one running back has won the award this decade and that was USC’s Reggie Bush in 2005.
Overall I believe Mark Ingram should be considered a top Heisman candidate.
Do you think Mark Ingram should be considered a top Heisman candidate?

Yea, he should be a Heisman candidate. He has proven that he is one of the best backs in the country this season. Bama is one of the best teams in the country and he is their best offensive player this season.
Mark Ingram received six of 13 first-place votes and leads the Heismanpundit.com poll with 48 points, even after having the week off. Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is the only other player who received more than one first-place vote.
Congratulations to Ingram and nice blog! (I'm in Cincinnati, what about the Brian Kelly move? I'm ).
