Bears LB Lance Briggs Supports 18-Game Season
Chicago Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs is okay with the idea of an “enhanced” season.
“I’ll take an 18-game schedule over four preseason games where we all get paid $1,100 a game,” Briggs said, per the Chicago Tribune. “Yes, absolutely, I think that players who are going out there are under-compensated for the work that we put out there on the field in the preseason. But it is going to change the dynamics of the way (regular-season) games are played.”
Briggs believes that an 18-game season will force teams to make decisions about resting players once they’ve locked up a playoffs spot. However, some coaches, like Jim Caldwell of the Indianapolis Colts, already have to make those decisions with the current 16-game NFL season.
Still, at the end of the day Briggs made the simplest, yet most effective argument for players agreeing to the extended season.
“We like money,” he joked.
