Browns RB Peyton Hillis Pushing For The Starting Role

Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis was busy in Saturday’s preseason game against the Rams as he carried the ball 12 times for 51 yards and caught two passes from QB Jake Delhomme for 12 yards. Hillis broke six tackles on a gutty 9-yard run to start the second quarter, which kept the drive alive, leading to the Browns first touchdown.

“It was good to see the things he can do as a runner,” coach Eric Mangini said. “It was good to see things you remember him doing, which were reasons for the trade. He gives you a spark as a tough, physical guy.” Delhomme and teammates liked what they saw from Hillis, who was part of the deal that sent Brady Quinn to Denver. “He’s (Hillis) the epitome of tough, rugged football,” Delhomme said. Hillis saw more time on Saturday as rookie RB Montario Hardesty was inactive.
