Browns Trade LB Kamerion Wimbley To The Raiders For A Third-Round Pick
The Cleveland Browns pulled off their second deal Sunday, trading away linebacker Kamerion Wimbley to the Oakland Raiders for a third-round pick in this year’s draft, sources told me.
Wimbley was a productive player for the Browns, but even though he led the team in sacks (6.5) last season he never played up to his rookie year (2006) when he produced a team-high 11. Plus, with the club stockpiling players at outside linebacker he became expendable — particulary with his contract expiring after next season.
The Browns must have figured they couldn’t re-sign him … or would have trouble re-signing him … and took the path of least resistance, getting something for him now while they could.
With the draft as deep as it is this year the move makes sense.
