Bucs Name Cadillac Williams Starter At Running Back

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today have unveiled their most recent depth chart, and it contains one very surprising move.

Running back Cadillac Williams is listed as the starter, meaning he’ll be the back to kick-start the three-man rotation the team plans to use. Derrick Ward is listed No. 2 and Earnest Graham is listed third.

Coaches revealed their plan for using the trio in the third preseason game. They used Williams as the starter for two series, followed by Ward for two series and Graham for one. After that, the rotation begins again.

Coach Raheem Morris said that “2-2-1″ format will continue to be used during the regular season, which begins Sunday at home against the Cowboys.

Williams’ place atop the depth chart is notable because of his two surgically-repaired knees. He suffered the most recent of two patellar tendon tears in December and mounted an impressive comeback, joining the active roster at the start of training cap. In his lone preseason game, he ran with authority, finishing with 54 yards on 8 carries (6.8 yards per carry).

There aren’t many other surprises, but one interesting note is that rookie receiver Sammie Stroughter appears to be the No. 3 receiver behind Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton.
