Cardinals S Adrian Wilson Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week

Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following last Sunday’s 24-17 victory at the New York Giants.

Wilson had five tackles, including two for loss, an interception, a fumble recovery, and two passes defensed in the victory.

The interception off Eli Manning came in the third quarter with the Cardinals clinging to a three-point lead. The INT gave Arizona’s offense the ball at the Giants 20-yard line and led to the game winning touchdown three plays later. The fumble recovery was also pivotal. Trailing by seven points with under four minutes to play, the Giants were driving when running back Ahmad Bradshaw reached the Arizona 44-yard line on a run, but fumbled at the end and Wilson alertly pounced on the loose ball to end the threat.

Wilson’s interception was the 19th of his career, leaving him both one sack and one INT short of becoming the ninth player in NFL history to have at least 20 sacks and 20 interceptions in a career.

Wilson was the third Cardinal this season to be named player of the week, joining defensive end Calais Campbell and cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

The Cardinals host Carolina (2-4) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at University of Phoenix Stadium.
