Rookie running back Ryan Mathews had a successful rookie camp with the Chargers and continues to look like a starter for the team. The former Fresno State rusher looked comfortable catching passes and didn’t even drop a pass.

The highly regarded rookie piqued the interest of several Chargers veteran offensive linemen, who came in to camp to see him workout even though they didn’t have to be there.

Asked if his first rookie-camp practice was more stressing mentally or physically, first-round pick Ryan Mathews said it was a little of both. “It’s a lot to remember,” he said. “It’s more mental, but then the physical starts to wear on you, too.”
