Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson Accepts One-Year Tender Offer
guaranteed his return to next season by accepting a one-year tender offer worth $2,621,000.
The Chiefs made Johnson a restricted free agent by offering him the one-year contract earlier this month.
Johnson, the Chiefs’ No. 1 draft pick in 2005, wasn’t a regular starter for the Chiefs last year and played mostly in the nickel defense. He finished the season with a flourish, scoring two touchdowns on interceptions in the Chiefs’ win over Denver.
Offensive lineman Ikechuku Ndukwe and fullback Mike Cox also signed one-year contracts. Ndukwe joined the Chiefs during the preseason in a trade with Miami and spent most of the season as a backup. He will be paid $1.684 million next year.
Cox has been the Chiefs’ fullback since he arrived as an undrafted free agent two years ago.
