Chiefs QB Matt Cassel Excited About Weapons And Upcoming Season

The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs QB Matt Cassel is excited about the changes on offense this offseason. The Chiefs signed RB Thomas Jones, center Casey Wiegmann and guard Ryan Lilja. Kansas City also re-signed WR Chris Chambers. Coach Todd Haley hired Charlie Weis to be Kansas City’s offensive coordinator.

Cassel said he wouldn’t mind if the trend continues two more weeks, when the NFL draft begins and the Chiefs pick at No. 5 overall. “I’m always offense,” Cassel said. “Offense all day long.” Cassel indicated that, amid all the new faces, it was some familiar players who most needed to turn the page. WR Dwayne Bowe, who endured a rocky season in 2009 and was suspended four games for failing a drug test, needed to leave the past behind as much as anyone.

Cassel said Bowe has attended the Chiefs’ workouts, which are voluntary and closed to reporters, and that he has high hopes for Bowe. “He can be a huge impact player for us,” Cassel said. “It’ll be our second year together, and I think the more time we can spend together, the better.”
