Chiefs Using Trio Of Backs To Replace Larry Johnson; Kolby Smith More Than Likely To Start

What in the name of Priest Holmes is going on in Kansas City. Holmes and Larry Johnson had two of the most prolific individual rushing seasons for the Chiefs over the past decade, and now with both of them long gone from their backfield, it’s down to a three-man committee, SN correspondent Adam Teicher reports for the Kansas City Star.
Kolby Smith, Jamaal Charles and Dantrell Savage will continue to split the workload. They all combined to get limited carries, however, with only 12 total in Sunday’s 24-21 loss to Jacksonville.
Charles probably has the most talent, but coach Todd Haley is taking look at the stock he has during another rebuilding season.
Quarterback Matt Cassel likes what Charles brings to the passing game. “You can see he’s got the speed and the suddenness and the big-play potential,” Cassel said. “He’s able to make plays out of nothing. I hope we can get that out of him.”
