Cowboys WR Miles Austin To See More Playing Time After Huge Game Against The Chiefs

When you make history, people notice.

“I had 200 text messages,” Cowboys receiver Miles Austin said about the aftermath of his record-setting, 250-yard performance Sunday at Kansas City. “I spoke to everybody from my college, guys from my high school, my community back in Garfield (N.J.).”

Talk about taking a quantum leap. The fourth-year receiver out of Monmouth entered last week with just five catches for 81 yards. He didn’t rank statistically among the top 50 receivers in the league.

After breaking Bob Hayes’ 43-year-old team record with 250 yards on 10 catches on Sunday, Austin’s is ranked 15th with 331 receiving yards.

More playing time is coming for Austin, who will continue to replace Roy Williams (ribs). If Williams returns after the bye, the coaching staff will have to decide if it will start Austin over Patrick Crayton.

Austin said he’s concentrating on elevating his game each week.

“I always want to be consistent,” Austin said. “That’s the name of the game. You’ve got to go in and do it every week, so that’s what I’m trying to do and that’s what we’re all trying to do as a team, is just get wins every week, no matter how they are, running the ball ugly or throwing the ball for 300 yards. You’ve got to get the win, regardless.”
