Cowboys WR Sam Hurd Signs One-Year Tender

Wide receiver Sam Hurd signed his one-year restricted-free agent contract today, the Cowboys announced.

Hurd received no attention from other teams after catching only seven passes last season for 121 yards and one touchdown. His salary will be in the neighborhood of $1.8 million.

A colleague just asked me if I was surprised the Cowboys offered Hurd a deal. My answer was an emphatic no. Hurd is a core special teams player who is a good guy in the locker room and a solid backup who knows all the receiving positions.

Will he be the next Miles Austin? Nope. But he’s good at his role, which is special teams and being an affable, spirited backup.
