Cowboys/Saints Game Breaks NFL Network Record

Saturday’s (December 19) New Orleans Saints loss to the Dallas Cowboys averaged 10.5 million viewers nationally and was the NFL Network’s most watched game ever.

Another 1 million-plus watched a live stream of the game at www.NFL.com, according to the network.

Locally, the game averaged a 7.7 rating on the NFL Network and a 44.6 rating on WGNO-Channel 26, with each rating point representing 1 percent of total local TV households, or about 6,340 homes.

WGNO’s post-game show averaged a 28.7 rating, according to Nielsen overnight numbers supplied by the station.

In the crowded pregame derby, WGNO’s “Who Dat Hysteria” block averaged a 5.1 rating from 4-6 p.m. The station’s number jumped to 12.0 in the 6 p.m. hour.

WVUE-Channel 8 averaged a 6.7 rating from 3-6 p.m., building to a 9.3 rating for “The Sean Payton show” at 6 p.m.

WDSU-Channel 6 won an 8.4 rating for its hour-long special at 6 p.m.
