Dallas Cowboys Training Camp: The Running Backs

Starter: Marion Barber

No one deserves the honor of being the starting running back for the Dallas Cowboys more than Marion Barber. Everytime he runs the ball he goes 100%. If he ran a 4.3 in 40 he would be the best running back in the NFL. I am a big fan of the power back and Marion is the best in the NFL. He runs, catches, blocks and throws. I’ve never seen a harder runner outside of Christian Okoye. He is the Thunder in the backfield this year for the Cowboys.

Backup: Felix Jones

Speaking of Thunder, here is Lighting. Rookie running back Felix Jones, barring injury, will be the backup to Marion Barber this year. This Jones replaces the other Jones (Julius Jones) at running back this year. He has blazing speed, good hands and has Jerry Jones in his corner, which is always a good thing. At any other school in America, Felix Jones would have been a starter, but if it wasn’t for the tremendous talent of Darren McFadden, Jones would have had alot better statistics in college. I admire Jones for sticking it out at Arkansas. He could easily transferred to a Division I-AA school and dominated, but chose not to. I think it paid off for him, he was still a 1st Round Pick and now plays for a major contender, great decision Felix!!!

Third String: Tashard Choice

Tashard Choice is the guy here because he has what every NFL team likes and thats heart. Tashard did the opposite of his new teammate Felix Jones and did transfer. Tashard transferred from Oklahoma to Georgia Tech after sitting behind a true freshman named Adrian Peterson, enough said. Its funny how the Dallas Cowboys chose the old backups to the top two running backs, the last two years in the draft (Darren McFadden and Adrian Peterson). Coincidence or planned? I believe Choice has what it takes to play in the NFL and will be a pretty good player for the Cowboys this year.

Practice Squad: Alonzo Coleman/Keon Lattimore

Its really a toss up between these two guys, Alonzo Coleman I believe has the edge just because he was on the practice squad last year. Keon Lattimore is the little brother of Future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis, and is a pretty talented back. We will see what happens with these two as training camp continues.
