Dolphins Contact Former Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell

According to Fox 31 news reporter Josina Anderson, the Miami Dolphins have contacted former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell.

The Dolphins lost Chad Pennington and Chad Henne to injury against the Titans on Sunday afternoon and was forced to use the wildcat formation a few times to see if Henne could come back into the game. Henne did not return which left third stringer Tyler Thigpen to take over.

Russell has been out of the NFL after the Raiders released the former No. 1 overall pick in May.

In September, ESPN.com reported that Russell has begun to work out with former NBA standout and head coach John Lucas, and is also consulting with him as a ‘life coach’.

Lucas is noted to have been through his own drug issues while a professional athlete, as well as counseled others in similar situations after he retired as a player. It is thought that the relationship is Russell’s first publicly-known step towards a goal of re-signing with some NFL team in the future.
