Ex-Olympian Rampling Dies At 100

Godfrey Rampling, who was thought to be Britain’s oldest living Olympian, died June 20 in Bushey, Hertfordshire, northwest of London. He was 100.
His death, in his sleep, was confirmed by Linda Sampson, the clinical manager of the nursing home where he lived.
Rampling was the father of the actress Charlotte Rampling.
He won a gold medal running the second leg of the 4×400-meter relay at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. His teammates were Fred Wolff, Bill Roberts and Arthur Brown.
He was also on the British team that won a silver medal in the same event at the 1932 Games in Los Angeles.
He retired in 1958 as a colonel in the British Army.
