Florida will construct individual bronze statues of former Heisman Trophy winners Tim Tebow, Danny Wuerffel and Steve Spurrier outside of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium after the 2010 season, University Athletic Association board members approved Wednesday.

Private donations will cover the estimated $550,000 cost of the larger-than-life statues, which will appear on the west side of the stadium.

Associate Athletics Director Greg McGarity said UF wanted to show its pride in having three Heisman winners – Spurrier (1966), Wuerffel (1996) and Tebow (2007).

“Construction can’t be this fall, so some time after the new year starts we can get the three honorees together,” McGarity said.
