Former Auburn S Otis Mounds Named Cornerbacks Coach At Texas Tech

Former Auburn safety Otis Mounds got a promotion this offseason being named cornerbacks coach for the Texas Tech Red Raiders for the 2011 season.

“I’ve known Otis for over 10 years,” remarked Tuberville. “He is one of the new up-and-coming bright coaches in this business who has had experience at both the high school and college level. He was a big part of our staff last year and I am glad that we were able to keep him on board.” ~ TexasTech.com

Mounds came to Texas Tech after coaching the secondary at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida under the legendary George Smith. While at St. Thomas Aquinas, he tutored some great cornerbacks. LaMarcus Joyner who was named the National Defensive Player of the Year and went on to Florida State University. He also coached Cody Riggs, who is now at Florida, Keion Payne, who will be competing for a starting job at Miami this fall, Desmond Southward who’s currently at Wisconsin and the son of Mounds’ former teammate at Dillard High School, Brian Robinson, who is now at Marshall.

Prior to moving to St. Thomas Aquinas, Mounds served as the head coach and defensive coordinator for three seasons at Coral Springs Charter School in Coral Springs, Florida where he coached his most well-known player, New England Patriots second-year cornerback Darius Butler.

Congratulations Coach Mounds!!!
