Former Broncos & Buckeyes RB Maurice Clarett Back At Ohio State

Former Buckeyes running back Maurice Clarett has re-enrolled at Ohio State.

Clarett, who was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the third-round of the 2005 NFL Draft, is back taking classes at the university where he was once a star.

He was the starting tailback during Ohio State’s 2002 national championship season. That was the last of his football glory.

He was dismissed from the university after a series of incidents that included a shouting match with a coach, filing a false police report and academic misconduct.

He sued the NFL to be included in the 2004 draft, but was eventually denied. He trained to be included in the 2005 draft, but reported to Broncos training camp overweight.

He was released shortly before the start of the 2005 season and never caught on with another team.

Shortly thereafter he found himself on the wrong side of the law and was charged and subsequently convicted of aggravated robbery.

He served 3 1/2 years at the Toledo Correctional Institution.

“This is a surreal feeling to be back at Ohio State in such a supportive environment,” Clarett said in a statement, per WBNS-TV in Columbus. “I have looked forward to being back in school and I’m doing my best to fit in with other students. I don’t want to be a distraction or nuisance to the football team or to students on campus.”
