Former Giants QB Phil Simms Threatens To Hit Desmond Howard

Former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms lost his cool a little at the NFL Xperience in Dallas today and he threatened to hit ESPN College Football Analyst Desmond Howard for telling him that his son is the one of the worst quarterbacks in the SEC.

Simms son Matt is the starting quarterback at the University of Tennessee. Simms finished the 2010 season with 1,460 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. All SEC lows for starting quarterbacks.

Simms, a junior, was in many eyes outplayed by freshman Tyler Bray in the last three games of the season including a 312 yard, four touchdown performance in this years Music City Bowl.

The exact comment that Howard made was:

“During the season we talked about the Tenn v LSU game and I said “u will see 3 of the worse QBs in the SEC” That’s what Phil did not like.” ~ @desmond_howard

Do you agree with Howard?

I agree with howard having the right to his own opinion I think simms reaction is a bit over kill however howard should take the high road on this and just put it past him not encourage the situation.

[...] Former Giants Super Bowl-winning quarterback Phil Simms apparently got somewhat confrontational with fellow former NFL player, Desmond Howard this weekend. Both players are current TV analysts — Simms for CBS and Howard for ESPN. Simms saw Desmond at the NFL Xperience at the Super Bowl this week, and brought up an insult he heard Howard make on TV during the college football season. From Howard’s twitter via MK Rob: [...]

Howard is classless. Why taunt a dad about his son? Also, he's a "professional" and a college graduate and he still spells "worse"? What a dumbass.

Not cool Desmond. Can't you find something else to talk about?

February 5, 2011 at 5:47 pm

I agree with Desmond. Matt Simms is one of the worst QB's in the SEC. There are a ton of kids who get scholarships because of their respective last names ie ( Jerry Neuheisel, Nate Montana, and Matt Simms ). Desmonds job is to give his opinion .

Aw, cmon, did you think Howard was a rocket scientist or what? At least he didn't say worstest!

February 5, 2011 at 6:14 pm

You retards realize that he was talking about a comment Howard made during the season and not right then to his face right?

February 5, 2011 at 7:26 pm

Who cares…….Simms son will not be starting next year since the True Freshman QB Bray is a better QB!

February 5, 2011 at 8:37 pm

It's not about whether Desmond is right or wrong with what he said…it's about being professional and appropriate at the right time…

February 5, 2011 at 9:17 pm

should've knocked out that little bitch

February 5, 2011 at 9:18 pm

Not a question of right or wrong Trojan…it's about being professional and Desmond was not.

The only reason Howard hs a job is because of one trophy. He doesnt speak with correct pronunciation and mispronounces words. But he does dress nice and gives the panel a different perspective. What woulld Howard do if Phil made fun of his lack of english skills or how he professional career was less stellar than others, including his own? Thats what Phil gets paid for, "his opinion".

I agree with Howard as well. Phil Simms knows his son is awful. He needs to try to work with him to make better rather than going after Howard. I'm sure he's not the only college football analyst that believes Simms' son sucks!

Howard has a right to his opinion about players, that's what ESPN hired him for. But for the record, Howard didn't say this to Phil's face, he said it earlier in the season and Simms is still holding the grudge against Howard.

He's not only the worst QB in the SEC, but he's one of the worst QB's in the entire country. Tyler Bray will more than likely be the starter this year.

February 6, 2011 at 7:42 am

I definitely agree. Tyler Bray, All The Way!

February 6, 2011 at 7:42 am

He said it during the season and it got back to Simms because someone told him. Howard never said it on the air.

February 6, 2011 at 7:43 am

Howard gets paid for his opinion as well. Simms should have never even threatened Howard. Simms should know it's part of the job, he's said guys weren't good all the time, but this time it's his son and of course it's different when it's your son and not someone elses child. Deal with it Phil.

February 6, 2011 at 7:45 am

The only reason Howard needs a job is because he's broke as a joke.

Howard being broke after a decent NFL career shows how stupid he is.

February 6, 2011 at 9:04 am

I guess Phil has a right to his opinion as well. He should just limit it to Desmond's performance and say he is one of the "worse" commentators on the air.

February 6, 2011 at 9:18 am

howard needs to watch out.phil should have smashed him.i think he showed increadble restraint i would smash anyone who bad mouthed my kids.period.good job holding back phil.loser howard show some respect……………the mans a legend.

I agree with Desmond and the proof is in the numbers.

He sucks Ryan Mallet over any Sims any day.

February 6, 2011 at 2:17 pm

I’m pretty sure desmond has 2 trophies. Heisman and superbowl mvp. Summary rips guys every week. So threaten a guy who is about 5-7 and a buck plus change… Simms is a pussy. “Come after me, I’m a man.”

February 6, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Phil got upset with the NFL scouts that said his other son wasn't very good and I don't see him starting for any NFL teams.

February 6, 2011 at 8:28 pm

I actually enjoyed watching Tyler Bray crying like a little girl after all his tough guy choke signs garbage turned into his game losing interception. What a creep!

Desmond Howard twitter whining in his soiled pants is right up there too though.

February 7, 2011 at 1:08 am

Actually Desmond was on he money. He only forgot the other son which makes it two sons who play crappy!

February 7, 2011 at 12:48 pm

Oh c'mon Phil. How many times have you made comments about a particular player not playing well when doing your broadcasts? Desmond has a job to do and just because that may spillover onto your son doesn't mean you need to attempt to take him out. Get real…
