Former NFL QB Ryan Leaf Arrested At U.S.-Canada Border

was arrested Wednesday at the Canadian border in Blaine, Wash., on a warrant that has been out for his arrest since May 20.
Leaf, 33, was heading south into the United States from Canada, where he was identified by customs officers, said Mike Milne, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman. Milne said Leaf was cooperative and it was a routine arrest.
Leaf faces drug and burglary charges in Texas stemming from his use of prescription painkiller medication. A grand jury there issued nine indictments against him in the case, and the investigation remains open.
James Farren, the district attorney for Randall County, Texas, said earlier this week if Leaf didn’t turn himself in by Thursday morning, he would seek more aggressive measures to bring him back from British Columbia, where Leaf had completed a drug rehab program.
Leaf was to face a fugitive hearing in Whatcom County, Wash., on Wednesday afternoon.
Leaf played college football at Washington State before being selected by the Chargers with the No. 2 overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft.
