Former Packers DT Gilbert Brown Blames Coach Mike McCarthy For 4-4 Start

Put Packers coachMike McCarthy on notice : He’s on the hot seat.

It’s not just that former Packers defensive tackle Gilbert Brown has said McCarthy’s to blame for the team’s 4-4 start, but team president Mark Murphy is chiming in with how disappointed he is.

“I’m disappointed in where we are now, especially the loss to (previously winless) Tampa,” Murphy told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Very disappointing to everybody, but we’ll see how we respond.”

Murphy said that while he expects more out the Packers, he still has confidence in GM Ted Thompson.

Brown doesn’t have the same patience. He said loss to Tampa was bad enough, but blamed the two losses to the Vikings and ex-Packers QB Brett Favre for derailing Green Bay’s season.

Brown said of the Vikings’ impact to WSSP radio in Milwaukee:

“Everybody on that team stole our swagger. Took our quarterback. Took our heart on Lambeau Field. Took our heart in front of millions of fans on TV. Then you go out and lose to a 0-7 team. The debacle started when they played the Vikings right there. The two Vikings games crushed the season.”

Brown laid the blame squarely on McCarthy and Thompson.

“Somebody has to step up and fix that and the head coach is the guy that is supposed to take care of everything,” he said. “When he can’t, he turns around and he’s supposed to have Ted standing right behind him to fix it as well. It starts with them two guys.”
