FSU CB Patrick Robinson Looking To Break Seminoles First Round Drought In NFL Draft

Patrick Robinson was his usual self during an interview with media members on Thursday at Florida State’s pro day. He was quiet. He was reserved. But when he talked about how much it would mean for him to become a first-round selection in the NFL Draft, his eyes and smile widened.

“That would mean a lot to me to be a first-rounder,” Robinson said.

It has been a while, Robinson acknowledged, since FSU has had a player selected in the first round of the draft. Lawrence Timmons, the former FSU linebacker, was the last FSU player who went in the first round. That was in 2007, when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Timmons with the 15th overall pick.

By FSU standards, two drafts without a first-round selection is a drought. Robinson could very well snap that dry spell, though. He said on Thursday that he’s hearing he’ll be selected anywhere from the middle of the first round to late in the first round.

Robinson didn’t have great stats during his senior season – he finished the year without an interception – but he was widely considered one of the few bright spots on otherwise dismal FSU defense. At FSU’s pro day, he ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash.

“I thought I should have ran a little faster, but I’m satisfied with it,” he said.

And he’ll be satisfied, too, come April – if he’s drafted where he’s hoping to be.

“I’m trying to end that drought,” Robinson said. “To be another Florida State first-rounder.”
