FSU F Jacinta Monroe Selected #6 Overall In WNBA Draft
became the first player in school history to be selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft on Thursday when she was selected sixth overall by the Washington Mystics.
“It’s a dream come true, I’m definitely excited,” Monroe said. “Washington is a great team and hopefully I can do great things there.”
Monroe wrapped up a stellar career that saw her set school records in every blocked shots category and lead her squad to FSU’s first-ever Elite Eight appearance this season.
The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native appeared in a school-record 136 games in her four-year career and finished with 1,518 career points, 913 rebounds and 301 blocks. Monroe is just the third player in school history with 1,500 points and 900 rebounds in a career. The 301 blocks make her the sixth player in ACC history with 300 career blocks.
The Washington Mystics finished fourth in the Eastern Conference a year ago with a 16-18 mark before falling in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
