Giants Claim RB Gartrell Johnson Off Waivers From The Chargers

It might have been the players’ off-day Tuesday, but the Giants’ front office was far from taking it easy.
and practice squad — the biggest of which came when they claimed running back Gartrell Johnson off waivers from the Chargers.
Johnson, San Diego’s fourth-round pick in April’s draft, ran for 176 yards on 43 carries during a busy preseason. He’ll be asked to serve as the No. 3 back while Danny Ware recovers from a dislocated elbow that will keep him out at least two weeks.
Johnson was claimed after the Giants held a workout that included several veteran running backs: former Falcon T.J. Duckett, ex-Dolphin and Eagle Lorenzo Booker and Dominic Rhodes, a former Colt and Raider they had in for a visit on the first day of free agency in 2007.
To make room for Johnson — and linebacker Michael Boley, who was added to the roster after serving a one-game suspension last week — the Giants cut backup offensive lineman Tutan Reyes and defensive tackle Leger Douzable.
The Giants fans are going to be pleasently surprised with this signing, I’ve been following Gartrell since high school, like I follow every guy that comes from Florida. Johnson compares favorably to Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber. Whenever he plays his way into the rotation, you will see what I mean. Great pickup Giants!!!

I'm super excited about this guy.
Dude your site is my new ESPN. Why bother, when everything is here.
He’s very good, Giants fans will be very pleased with him, if they ever give him a chance.
Gartrell is a beast. His last year at Colorado State was fun to watch. Give him a year or two and he could be a good running back in the NFL…
