Giants Concerned About Lack Of Pass Rush

The Giants’ pass rushers have been griping about the blocking schemes of opposing offensive lines. And now, so is their tutor.
“If teams went 5-on-4, they’d be in trouble, as far as being able to protect,” defensive line coach Mike Waufle said Wednesday. “There’s just too much ability to rush the passer.”
So far this season, that ability has been stifled by opponents’ protections and other tricks that have limited the Giants’ No. 1 defensive weapon: their pass rush.
Through nine games, the Giants have 20 sacks. That’s a respectable number and ties them with the Cowboys and Seahawks for 11th in the league. But that’s simply not good enough for a team that relies on getting after the quarterback and had 30 sacks through the first nine games last season.
“We’ve hit the quarterback quite a bit this year, which is like hitting doubles and triples in baseball and not getting home runs, so it doesn’t really show as a sack, which is an equivalent to a home run, as far as I’m concerned,” Waufle said. “It’s frustrating because you want to see the end result. You see some beautiful rushes – absolutely textbook rushes – and you’re not able to capitalize on them.”
