Giants Sign Former Colts QB Jim Sorgi; Now Backing Up Younger Manning
.
But he’ll hold a clipboard behind Eli Manning of the Giants. Sorgi’s agent, Matt Brei, told the Newark Star-Ledger on Tuesday that the longtime backup to Colts QB Peyton Manning agreed to a deal in New York.
Brei told the paper that the Giants’ concerns about Sorgi’s shoulder were allayed by Dr. James Andrews, among other doctors.
“The team doctor talked to Dr. Andrews. He has a history with Jim,” Brei said. “It was a matter of everybody getting comfortable, so we got the doctors in contact and everything was cleared. That’s where a little bit of the holdup was.”
Brei said Sorgi, who’s played with the Colts since 2004 but ended last season on IR, was “very excited” to join the Giants.
He’s never started a game as the backup to Peyton Manning. As he joins Peyton’s brother, Eli, with the Giants, he’ll line up on the depth chart behind a QB who hasn’t missed a start since taking over for the team in 2004.
