Incorporating Healthy Living Into Your Lifestyle

It’s a known fact that getting the proper nutrients in your body and exercising will not only help you with weight management, but will improve your mood and overall health.  Yet so many people choose to neglect this point and put anything convenient in their system.  I’ve spent the last 10 years learning, testing, and experimenting with different ways to be healthy without it being a burden and interfering with our lifestyles.  Now, let’s be clear, feeling great and looking good is not going to come without a price.  Just like getting a promotion at a job or graduating from college, it’s going to take some dedication and work.  But the key is, you must set goals, determine your ‘why’, and fit that perfectly in the center of your lifestyle.  Once you do this, it will be like second nature.

I started the year of with a list of goals, some of which were:

  • Take my training and supplementation to a higher level
  • Compete in a fitness competition again after a 3 year break

I wrote out my “why”.  Why were these things important?  How will they transform my life?  Once that was clear, I began taking steps every day to get me closer to my goals.  I made sure I did one thing each day.  After a few weeks, it became like 2nd nature and after a month, it became my life.  So getting up at 3:30 AM for workouts, cooking a week’s worth of food on Sunday, training hard, taking the proper supplementation became like 2nd nature.  Being healthy has always been a part of my life, but I set high goals, I wanted to outdo myself, what I had already done.

Here are a few ways to incorporate healthy living into your lifestyle:

  • Exercise 1st thing in the morning.  Even if it’s in your living room.  Get it out the way, you will feel energized all day and will not be burdened with trying to fit it in after a long day at work.
  • If time, job, scheduling does not permit for you to work out in the AM, have your gym bag packed in your car so as soon as your day is over, you can workout immediately.
  • Prepare your food in advance.  I cook all my proteins on Sunday.  Measure them, put in plastic baggies and freeze.  That way each morning, I throw them in the microwave, make my veggies, and I’m out the door.
  • Set a goal to eat clean all week, and then treat yourself to ONE cheat meal over the weekend.
  • Limit alcohol, it may be fun to go out and have a few cocktails, but its sabotage on your body!
  • Find active social things to do like bike riding, beach volleyball, hiking, walks in the park, etc.
  • Make smart decisions when dining out.  We all like to eat out, but no need to go overboard and consume 1000 extra calories.
  • Have a good support system.  Spend time with people who have similar health goals as you.

Apply these basic principles to your life and get ready to live a full, active, healthy lifestyle!
