Jaguars Cut QB Cleo Lemon; Sign QB Todd Boeckman

The Jaguars’ backup quarterback battle ended almost before it began.

The team terminated Cleo Lemon’s contract Wednesday and awarded the job to Todd Bouman with just one OTA (organized team activity) remaining today.

Lemon’s departure — as a vested veteran he doesn’t have to go through waivers and is free to sign with any team immediately — was one of several roster moves and left the Jaguars with 81 players, one more than they’re allowed to bring to training camp.

To give them four arms in training camp, the Jaguars signed Todd Boeckman, an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State who lost his job to freshman Terrelle Pryor three games into his senior season last year.

Boeckman will compete with Paul Smith for a practice squad or third quarterback job, though the Jaguars are likely to keep only two quarterbacks on the active roster. They could also sign another quarterback during camp off the waiver wire.
