Jets RB Leon Washington Wants Six Million A Year???

washington

Leon Washington, the Jets’ dynamic running back/kick returner, skipped the first day of the Jets’ organized team activities Monday amid reports he’s unhappy with his current contract, which has a base salary of $535,000.

Washington, 26, is entering the final season of his initial rookie contract. He reportedly is seeking a new contract that averages $6 million per season. The Jets have been negotiating a new contract with Washington this offseason, but according to the Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J., those talks hit a snag. A source told the newspaper that the team’s initial offer to Washington was “insulting.”Washington led the NFL with 2,337 all-purpose yards in 2008 and scored nine touchdowns.

Bottom line: Leon Washington has not done enough to get a contract with an average of six million a year. Especially with Thomas Jones being the starter. Washington is what Kevin Faulk is to the Patriots, a great all-around back. Faulk never got that kind of money and neither should Washington.
They have to pay USC rookie Sanchez first and I don’t how much money they will left over to give big money to a second string back.

Should the Jets give Leon Washington the contract he wants?

No, they should not give the great 'Nole $6 million, but he deserves more than $535,000. I think that he could get more by waiting until his contract is up anyway. If he has a great season (think Darren Sproles or Maurice Jones-Drew type of back up) then can possibly get what he wants with another team or the Jets.

Yes he does deserve more than $535,000 but not $6 million. RIDICULOUS!!!

Yes I agree. His performance does dictate a significan raise, but $6 million? No way. Especially since he doesn't start.
