Los Angeles Lakers Win 16th NBA Championship

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated long time rivals the Boston Celtics 83-79 on June 17th in game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals.

Ron Artest made a key play by sinking a three point shot late in the fourth quarter giving the Lakers a slight lead and Sasha making two free throw shots with only seconds to go helping crush the Celtics hope of a comeback or going into overtime.

Coach Phil Jackson stayed mum on whether or not he will return as Head Coach of the Lakers.

In the post game press conference, the series MVP, Kobe Bryant, took a shot at rival and  former teammate, Shaquille O’neal, saying “I got one more (Championship) than Shaq.” Kobe Bryant has 5 NBA championships, 3 with Shaq and now 2 more with Pau Gasol.

This is the third time the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, the Celtics beat the Lakers 9 times in 12 Finals meetings. This is the Lakers franchise 16th NBA title.

After the game Lakers fans were in the streets of Downtown L.A rioting and setting small fires, hitting cars and shaking them up as they drove out of the Staples Center parking lot.

The L.A Lakers parade is set for Monday June 21.
