LSU CB Patrick Peterson A Heisman Trophy Candidate?

LSU Tigers All-American cornerback Patrick Peterson showed that he could be a possible Heisman Trophy candidate after No. 21 LSU’s victory over No. 18 North Carolina in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game Saturday night at the Georgia Dome.

In addition to playing cornerback, Peterson is now a kick and punt returner and started of with a bang in the return game this season.

Peterson set an LSU game record in the first half alone with 244 return yards — three punt returns for 144 yards with an 87-yard return for a touchdown and three kickoff returns for 100 yards — as the Tigers took a 30-10 lead at the break. The 244 is also the second most return yards in Southeastern Conference history.

Peterson’s game was reminiscent of a guy playing in Green Bay and played a similar role at Michigan named Charles Woodson.

Woodson beat out then Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning for the 1997 Heisman Trophy and did it with his tremendous coverage and return skills leading the Wolverines to a share of the National Championship.

Peterson has the ability to become the Charles Woodson of this decade for LSU and I will be watching every step.

Peterson, a former Miami commit, is from my hometown area of Broward County in South Florida and all those who read MKRob Sports know that I highly support Florida athletes especially those from Broward County so keep it up Patrick Peterson, I’ll be rooting for you.

I agree. Patrick Peterson is so fun to watch. I’m so fortunate to be a student at LSU while we have a viable shot at having a Heisman winner and are even competing, in my opinion, for an SEC Championship. GEAUX PP7 AND GEAUX TIGERS
