Colin McCarthy moved inside and worked at middle linebacker during Friday’s practice, creating questions about whether he’ll start the season there.

Kylan Robinson was with the first team through the first two weeks of camp and last Friday Coach Randy Shannon said Robinson was the starting middle linebacker.

Friday’s move allowed Shannon and linebackers coach Micheal Barrow a better look at emerging outside linebacker Ramon Buchanan, who took McCarthy’s former spot with McCarthy replacing Robinson.

McCarthy, the team’s second-leading tackler (95) last season, had gotten reps at middle linebacker in the nickel package this fall, and would be a safer option there full-time than fellow senior Robinson, who has played two downs on defense in his career.
