Miami QB Jacory Harris Out Of Spring Practice With Thumb Injury
With Miami quarterback Jacory Harris out of spring drills because of a thumb injury, the Hurricanes will have plenty of time to look at three inexperienced players and get them some reps before fall camp.
A.J. Highsmith, who served as the backup last season, will split reps with early enrollee Stephen Morris and walk-on Spencer Whipple when practice opens Tuesday. Morris threw 22 touchdowns as a senior at Miami Pace. He isn’t as athletic as Highsmith but has a strong arm.
The Hurricanes lost a lot of experience at quarterback when former starting quarterback Robert Marve transferred before this season started and then third-string quarterback Cannon Smith transferred to Memphis. Both seeking more playing time after Jacory Harris was named the starter.
Harris made great strides in becoming the Hurricanes main man at quarterback and at one point was a Heisman Candidate, so the job will remain his, but tt’s essentially a two-man race between Highsmith and Morris for the backup job going into 2010.

Maaaaan, I'm hoping this injury isn't too severe. Seems like there's an extreme amount of pressure on The U to make it BIG next season. BCS game or bust; doesn't have to be the national championship, but they gotta make a BCS bowl.
I completely agree, if they don't, Randy Shannon might be looking for another job next year.
