After going undrafted, New Hampshire tight end Scott Sicko received calls from the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets who were interested in signing him.

At one point his agents even had a deal in place with the Dallas Cowboys, but when they called to tell him the good news they were shocked by his response.

If he wasn’t drafted, he wasn’t going to play.

“If I were to be drafted I would have had more confidence of a much longer career in the NFL,” Sicko told Mark McGuire of the Albany Times-Union. “I have to look at my life and decide what will make me the happiest. And the thing that will make me the happiest now and in the long run is to pursue my education.”

The Cowboys even called to make a personal pitch to the tight end, but he would not be deterred.

“Some people will think I’m absolutely out of mind, and I and understand it,” Sicko said. “I completely see where they coming from.”
