NFLPA Advices Chargers WR Vincent Jackson To Report

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was advised by the NFLPA to report to camp before the season is out. Jackson refused to sign his free-agent tender unless he was given a long-term contract.

Jackson has been advised to report no later than Oct. 31 or he will not gain credit for a sixth accrued season toward free agency, according to Mortensen. That would likely prevent Jackson from being restricted free agents next year, although it’s not certain what the next Collective Bargaining Agreement will say about the requirements for free agency.

Reporting by Oct. 31 would allow him to sit out three games and still be on the active roster for the six games required to gain credit for an accrued season.
