Okafor and Bobcats agree on 6 year $72 million contract

The Charlotte Bobcats and Emeka Okafor have agreed on a six year contract worth $72 million. General manager Rod Higgins confirmed the agreement, saying that he expects the contract to be done in the next few days. Okafor turned down a five year deal with a similar $12 million annual average before last season, preferring to wait for restricted free agency this year. What’s the difference between $12 million in 2007 and $12 million in 2008? Okafor must have tested the market and saw that there were no takers willing to pay him $12 million this year, so he opted to stay with the Bobcats.

In my opinion, Okafor lost out a little bit in this deal because $12 million in 2007 is really $11 million in 2008 the way the economy is nowadays. One million dollars is alot of money to average joe, but to Okafor, its no big deal. Congrats Emeka!
