Packers Rookie S Morgan Burnett Lining Up With The Starters
Former Georgia Tech and Packers rookie safety Morgan Burnett is running with the first-team defense alongside Pro Bowler Nick Collins.
Ted Thompson traded up in the draft to take Burnett in the third round.
They expect him to compete with Atari Bigby for the starting job, but Bigby isn’t here because he hasn’t signed his restricted free agent tender.
So Burnett is taking all the reps.
He was a ball hawk in three seasons at Georgia Tech, with 14 picks.
Now he’s trying to learn all the calls and checks that come with playing safety.
“I just look at it as an opportunity to learn. Whatever coach tells me to do. I go and watch the vids and learn as much as I can in the OTAs,” Burnett said.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said, “We’ve seen him in the rookie orientation. Now two practices, I think he’s off to a good start here and there’s no question you like the size and the athletic ability that he possesses, and I think that’s pretty clear cut when you watch him move around the last two days.”
