Panthers LB Jon Beason Tears Achilles; Out For The Season

Carolina Panthers pro bowl linebacker Jon Beason suffered a torn achilles against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon and will miss the remainder of the season. He will have surgery in the next couple of days.

Beason, a former Miami Hurricane, was carted off the field in the third quarter, after he suffered a non-contact injury trying to chase down Cardinals tight end Jeff King on his 48-yard touchdown reception. Panthers coach Ron Rivera referred to Beason’s status as “dire” Sunday night.

Former Penn State linebacker Dan Connor replaced Beason and finished with six tackles. Even though Connor lacks the speed of Beason, he should be a good replacement considering he started eight games at middle linebacker last year.
