Panthers Rookie QB Cam Newton Named Starter For Opener

The Carolina Panthers have named their No. 1 overall pick from Auburn, Cam Newton, their starting quarterback for their regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals on September 11.

The 2010 Heisman Trophy Winner beat out former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen for the starting spot.

Newton set single-season Auburn records for passing and rushing touchdowns, rushing yards by a quarterback, and total yards of offense.

After going 2-14 under the direction of Clausen and now Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore in 2010, the Panthers definitely needed a new signal caller and they hope that Newton is the answer.
