Pittsburgh DE Jabaal Sheard Suspended Indefinitely
Pittsburgh senior starting defensive end Jabaal Sheard has been suspended indefinitely from team activities after being charged with multiple offenses for his part in a fight early Sunday morning.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Sheard was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned and will have a preliminary hearing July 28.
Pittsburgh’s athletic department released a statement confirming the suspension.
“We are in the midst of gathering information on a weekend incident involving Jabaal Sheard. While we conduct our own investigation of the matter, Jabaal has been indefinitely suspended from team activities.”
Sheard was alleged to have thrown a man through a glass door, then continued to beat him while officers tried unsuccessfully to stop the altercation.
Listed at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Sheard was set to begin his third year as a starter on the Panthers’ defensive line. He started all 13 games for Pitt in 2009 and compiled 42 tackles, 10 1/2 of those for a loss, five sacks and paced the team with 12 quarterback hurries.
