Pittsburgh Head Coach Dave Wannstedt Resigns

According to the team website, Dave Wannstedt announced on Tuesday that he is resigning his position as the head football coach at Pittsburgh.

The website also indicates that Wannstedt will remain at the school as a special assistant to athletic director.

Wannstedt was a 1974 graduate of Pittsburgh and an offensive tackle for the Panthers.

Wannstedt was 42-31 in six seasons at Pittsburgh, leading the Panthers to three straight bowl games (2008-10). Pittsburgh will play in the BBVA Compass Bowl.
