Rams Trade DE Adam Carriker To The Redskins

The Washington Redskins acquired defensive lineman and former first round pick Adam Carriker on Tuesday from the St. Louis Rams.

Like the Redskins’ Brian Orakpo in 2009, Carriker was the 13th overall pick to the Rams in 2007, a year in which he had 2 sacks.  The 6’6”, 296 lbs. player started every game as a rookie at nose tackle. In 2008, he played in 15 games and started nine but missed the 2009 season with a shoulder injury.  Last year he tore a muscle in his shoulder late in the preseason and needed surgery.  Not surprisingly, he was placed on injured reserve.

This trade does not involve defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.  Redskins.com reports that Washington exchanged fifth and seventh round picks with St. Louis in this weekend’s draft:  the Redskins gave up their 135th overall for the Rams’163rd overall and gave up their 211th overall for the Rams’ 208th overall.  And, no, that’s not a typo.  Washington did move up 3 spots in that seventh round.  According to the Associated Press, the Rams have been trying to trade Carriker for a while.
