Ravens Could Re-Sign Veteran FB Lorenzo Neal

The Ravens waived rookie fullback Jason Cook earlier today, and this could lead to them re-signing veteran fullback Lorenzo Neal. With the departure of Cook, the Ravens have only one fullback on their roster, Le’Ron McClain.
Neal, who played for the Ravens last season, would be a good addition for the Ravens because he can still play at a high level, and is a great leader in the locker room. According to a team source, both Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron have recently spoken to Neal recently about returning. Unfortunately for the Ravens, so has Jets head coach Rex Ryan.
Neal played a major part in the success of McClain last season. McClain reported to training camp overweight, but he worked hard getting his weight down by working with Neal. Ravens Pro Bowl middle linebacker Ray Lewis has also been lobbying some of the coaches about getting Neal back.
Neal recently was cut by the Raiders simply because Oakland wanted to have younger players at the position. Neal appears to be in good shape, and has dropped down to 240 pounds. He was one of the lead blockers in the Ravens short yardage offense last season.
