Saints Handle Cardinals 45-14; Will Host NFC Championship Game
The New Orleans Saints will host the NFC Championship game at the Superdome for the first time next Sunday.
Drew Brees and company defeated the Arizona Cardinals in convincing fashion by a score of 45-14 on Saturday to extend their season.
The New Orleans quarterback was 23-of-32 passing for 247 yards and three touchdowns en route to the win.
Reggie Bush proved that he could be an offensive threat in the post-season by racking up 84 yards on just five carries, including one that went 46 yards for a touchdown.
Pierre Thomas shouldered the majority of the rushing load for New Orleans, carrying the ball 13 times for 52 yards.
Marques Colston and Devery Henderson combined for 163 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
The team now awaits the winner of Sunday’s playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys.
As for the Cardinals, the question now becomes the future of Kurt Warner. Was this his final game before retirement? He admitted that he was thinking about it in a pre-game interview.
Warner wrapped up his season—and possibly his career—with a 17-for-26 passing performance for 205 yards and and interception. He did not find the end zone. He was also knocked out of the game in the second quarter with a chest injury, but returned after halftime.
Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells scored the team’s only touchdowns of the day.
