Sprinter Sanya Richards Wins Gold In Berlin

sanya

Sanya Richards ran the fastest time in the world this year to win the gold medal in the 400-meters Tuesday at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships.

The 24-year-old University of Texas alum won in 49.00 seconds to silence her critics and avenge her loss to defending world champion and Olympic gold medalist Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain, who finished a distant fifth.

Richards had won 4×400-meter relay gold medals in the past three world championships and two Olympics but had yet to win an individual gold medal.

She is the American record holder in 48.70, a mark she set in 2006.
