Covenant School (TX) head coach Micah Grimes was fired Sunday after defeating Dallas Academy 100-0 in a game January 13th.

Kyle Queal, the headmaster for Covenant School, said in The Dallas Morning News online edition that he could not answer if the firing was a direct result of coach Micah Grimes’ e-mail disagreeing with administrators who called the blowout “shameful.”

Covenant was winning 59-0 at halftime.

Covenant, a private Christian school, posted a statement regretting the outcome of its Jan. 13 shutout win over Dallas Academy. “It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened. This clearly does not reflect a Christlike and honorable approach to competition.”

Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in the entire high school. They have not won one game the last four seasons. Dallas Academy specializes in teaching students struggling with “learning differences,” such as short attention spans or dyslexia.

This story is unbelievable. The last time I heard, coaches got fired losing, not winning. From what I’ve read and heard about this story, he played all of his players.

My philosophy is your job as a team is to stop me, not me stop myself. What did you want them to do after the 59-0 lead? Do you want the Covenant School to grab a rebound and give it back to the Dallas Academy? Should they dribble down court and let the shot clock run out so the Dallas Academy could get the ball back? Should they step out of bounds on purpose so Dallas Academy could get the ball back? I guess giving the other team the ball to the other team purposely is “Christ-like.” WWJD!!!

NO WAY!!! This firing was totally uncalled for and the Covenant School should be ashamed of themselves for firing a coach that won a game and not lost. If anyone should be fired, it should be the Dallas Academy coach for not winning a game in four years. WOW!!!
